Brain and Spinal Injury Care
Care for people with an Acquired Brain injury:
Our clinical team have experience in the management of people with acquired brain injuries including traumatic brain injury, hypoxic brain injury, people who have suffered severe strokes. Our mission is to put patients first alongside their families and to support and enable our team to offer the best possible care and rehabilitation.
The senior MDT have extensive experience in the following
• Formulating goal based care planning to ensure all team members are very clear of the clinical risks and the effective management of these risks
• Supporting people who are wheelchair dependent, focussing on 24-hr posture management and preventing pressure ulcers
• Managing Nutritional needs either through a PEG, RIG or JIG working under the guidance of Dietician
• Follow robust infection prevention processes to prevent Respiratory, urinary, skin and other infections and unplanned hospital admissions
• Work with the MDT, to carryover therapy and rehabilitation related interventions where safe to do so
• Our Care team emphasise the equal importance of quality of life activities alongside clinical stability & improvement. These could take the form of holidays, shopping, visit to a beach, Zoo, going out for a coffee or dinner.


Care for people with Spinal cord injuries:
Our carers are trained in the management or patients who have suffered spinal cord injuries.
• Our care staff are experienced in the management of patients who have suffered a high spinal cord injury and are dependent on ventilators
• Our specialist nurses train the carers to manage supra pubic and urethral catheters and set up bowel management routines including manual evacuation or management of a colostomy
• Careful monitoring of vital signs and other symptoms to prevent infections. Use of latest technology allows our senior clinicians and managers to monitor our patients ongoing clinical status
Managing people with respiratory needs:
Our respiratory management is led by Specialist Respiratory Nurses who provide training, supervision support for our experienced Carers. Our carers are trained and competency assessed to manage people with respiratory conditions, ventilator support, or people dependent on tracheostomy.
Our experts in the Clinical team have over 25 years experience in the management of people who with the following needs
• Tracheostomy management including tracheal suctioning, day to day care and Tracheostomy weaning
• Invasive and Non-invasive ventilation: Day or night or 24 hr ventilation including the provision of cough assist therapy and nebulisation and where appropriate, our team work with the Doctors and Multidisciplinary team (MDT) to promote weaning.
